There’s Only One Britannia Publishing House. And This Is Us.

Official Statement

The publishing world is full of companies that sound like someone else. We are not one of them. We are Britannia Publishing House — and we want every author to know exactly who they are dealing with before they trust anyone with their book.

Our position — stated plainly
“We don’t just promise transparency.
We invite you to test it.”
Check our credentials. Ask for references. Read our contract before you sign anything.
A publishing house with nothing to hide welcomes every one of those questions.

Authors are being confused. Similar-sounding names, copycat branding, and companies that trade on ambiguity — it is happening across the UK publishing industry, and it is doing real damage to real writers who deserve better. We are issuing this statement because silence is not neutral. Authors need to know who is who — and we are happy to be known.

Trusted
Your manuscript stays yours. Your royalties come to you. No exceptions, no small print.
Transparent
Every fee agreed in writing before you pay a penny. What we quote is what you pay.
Authentic
A real UK publishing house. Verifiable credentials. Real authors. Real books.

What we actually promise — and mean

Most publishing companies make promises that sound reassuring until you read the contract. Here is what Britannia Publishing House commits to — in plain language, without the qualifying clauses.

Your book is yours. Full stop.
We do not acquire your rights. We do not take a royalty share. We do not hold your manuscript hostage if a disagreement arises. You own what you wrote — before, during, and after we work together. That is not a policy. It is a principle.
Every penny your book earns goes to you.
100% of royalties from every platform, every territory, every format — paid directly to you. We earn our income from our publishing packages, not from a cut of your success. Your book’s earnings belong to you entirely.
You will always know who you are speaking to.
A named, dedicated publishing manager — not a support ticket, not a shared inbox. A real person, accountable to you, throughout every stage of your publishing journey.
Written agreement before any payment. Always.
We will never ask you to pay before providing a full written agreement that sets out every deliverable, every timeline, and every fee. If a publishing company asks you to pay first and explain later — that is your answer about who they are.
No hidden fees. No surprises. No excuses.
The price we quote is the price you pay. We do not introduce additional charges mid-project. We do not charge for standard revisions. What is in the agreement is what happens. Transparency is not a selling point here — it is the baseline.

Things you might have heard — and the truth

The publishing industry has its share of myths, half-truths, and misleading reassurances. Here are some of the things authors are told — and what the reality actually is.

Heard“We’re a traditional publisher — we pay advances and take care of everything.”
RealityA traditional publishing deal assigns your rights — often permanently. The average debut advance in the UK is under £5,000. After earn-out, you may receive very little more. Always read what you are signing over before you sign it.
Heard“Pay now and we’ll sort the contract afterwards — we’re very busy.”
RealityNo legitimate publisher asks for payment before providing a written agreement. If you encounter this, stop. Do not proceed. A reputable publishing house is never too busy to provide a contract before accepting your money.
Heard“We guarantee bestseller status / media coverage / thousands of sales.”
RealityNo publishing company can guarantee sales, bestseller rankings, or media coverage. These claims are not just misleading — they are the calling card of predatory publishers. Walk away from any company that makes them.
Heard“We have an office in London / New York / LA.” — but no verifiable address.
RealityA real UK publishing company is registered with Companies House and has a verifiable address. Check gov.uk directly. A PO box, a virtual office, or an address that doesn’t appear on Companies House is a warning sign that deserves investigation.

How to verify any publisher in five minutes

Use these five steps before signing anything or paying anyone — including us. We encourage it.

Five steps — do these for every publisher you consider
1
Search Companies House
Go to gov.uk/get-information-about-a-company. Search the exact company name. Confirm the registered address, company number, and director names match what the company is telling you. Takes two minutes and tells you everything.
2
Find a real human being
Can you speak to a named person directly — by phone or video call — before signing anything? A legitimate publishing company will welcome a conversation. A company that can only communicate via chat or email and deflects requests for a call is telling you something.
3
Ask for author references
Request the names and contact details of authors the company has published. Look up those books. Do they exist? Can you find them on Amazon, in bookshops, or in library catalogues? Ask to speak to one of those authors directly.
4
Read the contract — all of it
Request the full publishing agreement before any payment changes hands. Read the rights clauses, the royalty terms, the reversion clauses, the fees, and the termination conditions. If anything is unclear, ask for plain-English clarification. If they refuse — you have your answer.
5
Search the name carefully
Some companies deliberately choose names that mimic well-known publishers. Search the exact name plus “reviews” and “complaints.” Check Trustpilot, Google Reviews, and author community forums like the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi) watchdog list.
Red flags — stop and investigate if you see any of these
Asked to pay before receiving a written agreement
Pressure to decide quickly — “this offer expires today”
Guarantees of sales figures, bestseller rankings, or media coverage
No verifiable UK business address or Companies House registration
Vague answers about who owns your rights after publication
A company name that closely resembles a well-known publisher — with a slight variation
No published titles you can find, examine, or trace to real authors
