Design and Formatting

Every cover begins with the author’s own direction and preferences, since it is their book and their name it will carry. Our designers then apply that vision to the trim size, bleed and file format required for print and digital retail, with interior layout formatted to the same standard so the finished files are ready for production without a separate step.

Cover Design

A cover starts with what the author already has in mind, not a template pulled from a library. Our designers work from that direction to produce an original cover built to the specifications print and digital retail require, trim size, bleed, resolution and file format, so it holds up on a bookshop shelf and as a thumbnail online. Revisions continue until the author is satisfied, not for a fixed number of rounds.

Interior Formatting

How a book is laid out on the page affects how it reads as much as the writing itself. Interior formatting covers font, spacing, margins and chapter structure, set to match the book’s genre and the reading experience it needs, a dense typeface that suits a literary novel would work against a children’s book. Every file is delivered print-ready, so no separate formatting step is needed once it’s complete.

Illustrations

For books that need original artwork, Britannia can connect authors with an illustrator and manage that relationship directly, rather than leaving an author to source and brief one alone.

Retail Specifications

Every cover and interior file is produced to meet the requirements IngramSpark and Gardners set for print, not just what’s needed for an online-only listing. This keeps bookshop and library placement a genuine option, rather than something that needs redoing later if an author decides to pursue it.

FAQs

There's no fixed limit. Revisions continue until the author is satisfied with the final cover and interior layout.

The author. Once a cover is finalised, full rights to the design belong to the author, the same as every other part of the book.

That's fine. Direction can come from the author or be built from scratch based on the book's genre and content, the process works either way.

Yes. Formatting is set to match the book, a novel, a non-fiction title and a children's book are laid out differently, since what reads well for one doesn't work for another.
