Ebook Production

An ebook is often the first version of a book a reader actually encounters, browsing online before deciding whether to buy the print edition. The finished, approved manuscript, the same one that’s gone through editorial and design, is converted into the file formats each retailer requires, checked for correct display across devices rather than treated as an automatic export from the print file.

Audiobook Production

Audiobooks are narrated by freelance voice artists rather than an in-house team, matched to the tone and genre of the book rather than drawn from a fixed roster. Production is managed on the author’s behalf from casting through to the finished recording, so the process stays coordinated even though narration itself is outsourced.

Metadata and Listings

Categories, keywords and pricing are set up as part of the process rather than left for the author to configure. A properly produced book with poor metadata is often harder for a reader to find than a rougher book with metadata set up correctly, so this step is treated as part of production, not an optional extra.

Distribution

Ebooks and audiobooks are distributed through Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Audible and Kobo, the retailers where most digital readers and listeners buy.

Talk to a Publishing Consultant

If you're not sure whether your book should publish as ebook only, print and ebook together, or with an audiobook too, a conversation with your consultant is often the fastest way to work out what fits, before committing to any of it.

FAQs

Yes. While most authors choose to publish across multiple formats, an ebook-only release is entirely possible. Because Britannia's quotations are built around a manuscript's actual needs rather than a fixed package, publishing digitally without a print edition simply means the print-specific services aren't part of that particular project.

Audiobook production takes 2 to 3 months in total, covering casting, narration and final production. Ebook file preparation is handled as part of the wider publication stage, since bespoke quotations are built to cover every format a book will be released in from the outset, rather than treating the ebook as a separate project once print is finished.

Yes, for print and ebook editions. Each is assigned its own ISBN, which keeps metadata accurate and consistent across retailers and, where relevant, for bookshop and library listings. Audiobooks are identified through retailer-specific codes rather than an ISBN. Authors who already hold their own ISBN for print or ebook are welcome to use it instead.
